The Department of Transportation said in a court filing on Monday it’s planning to issue a proposed rule by December 2019 about airplane bathroom accessibility for travelers with disabilities. The filing came in response to a lawsuit by the group Democracy Forward, brought on behalf of Paralyzed Veterans of America, which sued the DOT for delaying the regulation that was originally mandated by Congress with a July 2017 deadline.
“To ensure that the Department does in fact advance this rulemaking to provide vital travel protection to paralyzed veterans and other travelers with disabilities, we will continue to press forward with this case,” the group said in a joint statement with Paralyzed Veterans of America.
