As part of our response to the coronavirus, PVA is working with VA, Congress and other partners to identify the needs of veterans with SCI/D to develop and implement solutions to ensure the health and safety of our members and all veterans. One area we are closely looking at is any type of care that is provided in veterans’ homes. Healthcare workers rely on personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect themselves and their veteran patients from the virus as well as other diseases. VA assures us that all of its healthcare staff are adequately equipped at this time—including those who provide home healthcare services.

A pair of our members were recently warned, however, that rates for their privately contracted care which is used to supplement VA home care may increase to cover the purchase of PPE. PVA’s legislative team is looking at rates of Aid and Attendance (A&A) that are provided to certain veterans by VA. We need your help.

If you purchase supplemental care and the provider of that care has told you that rates may soon increase to cover equipment to protect them and you from potential COVID-19 exposure, we need to hear from you. The information you provide will help us evaluate the adequacy of this benefit so we can properly advise members VA and members of Congress.
